# Self-host n8n with Docker

> Build automations and connect your tools with a visual, node-based workflow editor.

Build automations and connect your tools with a visual, node-based workflow editor.

This page describes the Levelrail template for n8n (Automation). It deploys the services below as one Docker Compose app on your own server. Project site: [https://docs.n8n.io](https://docs.n8n.io).

Recommended memory: about 512 MiB.

## Services, ports and volumes

| Service | Image | Container ports | Volumes |
| - | - | - | - |
| `n8n` | `n8nio/n8n:1.62.1` | 5678 | `n8n_data -> /home/node/.n8n` |

## Environment variables

| Service | Variable | Value |
| - | - | - |
| `n8n` | `N8N_ENCRYPTION_KEY` | Generated at deploy |
| `n8n` | `N8N_HOST` | Preset in the template |
| `n8n` | `N8N_PORT` | Preset in the template |

Passwords and keys marked as generated are created for you when the app is deployed and stored as secrets. Values are not shown here.

## Deploy n8n with Levelrail

In the dashboard, open **Apps**, choose **New app**, then **Browse templates**, and select n8n. Review the Compose body and deploy.

With the CLI:

```bash theme={"dark"}
levelrail-cli templates deploy n8n --name my-n8n
```

See the [service template catalog](/templates-and-registry) for how templates work, and [Getting started](/getting-started) if you have not installed Levelrail yet.
